How long have you been a financial planner?

I have been a Financial Planner for 5 years.

What is your experience with financial planning for women?

I work with women at all stages of their life – whether they are just starting out on their financial journey, trying to juggle family and career responsibilities, or getting closer to the retirement that they have worked so hard for, I act as a guide and an accountability partner to help de-mystify the world of money and help them to remain on track with their financial goals as their life and the world around us evolves over time.

Why is financial planning for women’s wellbeing the area you’re most passionate about?

I love working with women because women encounter so many barriers and hurdles when it comes to planning their financial lives. Life transitions such as starting a family, caring for loved ones, divorce or entering the menopause can have really profound effects on our ability to manage our money effectively, and feel confident when it comes to putting plans in place for the future. At the core of my planning philosophy is the idea of Financial Wellbeing – this is a core part of our wider wellbeing and although the phrase “money can’t be happiness” is correct, having a baseline level of financial security is absolutely key to living a confident and empowered life.

What is an example of the difference you have made for a woman with their finances supporting their life better?

I had the privilege of working with a woman who was going through a complicated, costly and emotionally-intensive relationship breakdown. Her partner had always handled the household finances, and she felt completely lost when it came to picking up the pieces and planning for her future which now looked so different to how she had imagined. Our work together took her from a place of fear and confusion, to full confidence and clarity over what her money was doing for her, and the concrete steps she needed to take now and in the future so that she can create a life that she loves. She even said to me recently that she now looks forward to our meetings together, because she feels so accomplished and in control afterwards!

Why is International Women’s Day important to you?

International Women’s Day is important to me because we still have a long way to go with female empowerment around money. I meet women all the time who feel that they will simply never be able to conquer their money fears or take control of their financial situation, and International Women’s Day is a great opportunity to be able to share some really quick, easy steps that a woman can take to start taking back that control and begin to feel the confidence that she deserves.

Join us on Thursday 6th March 6pm - 8:30pm to hear more from Rachel and how you can implement small changes that will make a big difference to your finances.
